Body Sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a completely natural paste made from lemon, sugar and water. The paste is molded onto your skin against the direction of the hair growth, then quickly flicked off - removing the sugar paste, extracting your unwanted hair and collecting dead skin cells.  This ancient hand technique that allows for the hair to be extracted in the direction of its growth means less breakage and discomfort for you! 

At SugarBare, we offer all natural organic sugar paste and have been told that it hurts less than waxing. If you have been shaving, the first treatment is going to hurt due to the fact that the bulb at the base of the hair shaft is enlarged. The more treatments you receive the weaker the roots get and the easier it is to remove the hair.

You have 3 stages of hair growth. Because these stages are weeks apart, there may be some hairs left here and there after your first appointment. We do our best to get as much as we can, but ultimately to catch the hair throughout all 3 stages to have it all completely removed, it takes approximately 2-3 treatments. It also depends on if you keep your appointments regular and also the regime that you maintain at home because home care is an important part of your success in sugaring.

Hair growth only needs to be the length of a grain of rice. This would be about 3-4 weeks of hair growth. Anything more is unnecessary and will cause additional pain.

Generally sugar hair removal lasts between 4-6 weeks, depending on the level of hair growth and on how regular you are sugaring. This varies from person to person and is also depending on the body area. Most people begin to notice regrowth around 3 weeks.

Wax has many chemical ingredients while  sugaring paste is made from 100% natural ingredients. Hot wax must be heated to a very high degree in order to become liquefied. This amount of heat can cause burning and scarring. It also causes swelling in the tissues, which makes hair removal difficult. Long term use can break down the underlying connecting tissues, especially in the lip and brow areas which is associated with wrinkling.

Stubble that is 1/8" in length is in the Anagen Phase of hair growth. This is the growth phase which is considered ideal even for laser hair treatment. Regular hair removal at this stage leads to permanent loss. Every time hair at the Anagen Phase is extracted, a little part of the follicle wall is torn with it, which eventually causes the wall to collapse. Regular body sugaring may lead to thinning of hair and permanent hair removal, but only after around 6 months or so of regular treatments.

It is completely up to you. Generally, skin is more sensitive during this time and you may opt to reschedule, but if you are comfortable, it is fine to get sugared while on your period. If this is the case, we ask that you wear a tampon or cup and tuck the tampon string.

With sugaring, your hair will grow back thinner and many clients report a noticeable reduction of hair growth.

Staying on a regular sugaring service pattern will help with this as well.

Using razors or depilatory cream between appointments will interfere with the goal of diminishing your hair growth.

Yes! Sugaring is all natural and generally consists of sugar, lemon and water.

The sugar paste we use is slightly warmed so there's no need to be concerned with getting burned.

Sugaring wraps itself around the hair shaft making it pliable and gently encourages the extraction of hair deep inside the follicles.

Sugar is bacteria resistant and is used in a sanitary manner.

You may see redness similar to a light sunburn, red speckling where the hair root was removed, and sometimes hives for the first 24-48 hours following a sugar service. The skin feels more tender than usual to the touch. If you have been getting sugared regularly for a long time or have remarkable skin recovery time, it may only take 6-12 hours.

The day before your appointment you should exfoliate the area.

For the first 24-48 hours:

• Wear loose clean clothing, especially for Brazilians. Friction, sweat or heat will create ingrown hairs, bumps, redness, and irritation. Avoid dirty clothes, tight clothes, dirty undies, skinny jeans, leggings or stockings.
• NO HOT SHOWERS,
• NO BATHS
• NO HOT TUBS, POOLS, OCEAN
• NO SEX (FOR BRAZILIANS ONLY)
• NO SWEATY WORKOUTS
• NO SUN EXPOSURE OR TANNING
• NO SCRUBS OR HARSH CHEMICALS IN PRODUCTS OR ANYTHING WITH FRAGRANCES OR PERFUMES

Showering:

• Do not shower immediately after a service. Wait 6-12 hours at least.
• If you get sweaty, rinse immediately with cool water and no soap.
• After 12-24 hours, take a lukewarm shower.
• After your first shower, apply moisturizer and bump reducer.
• Wait 72 hours after service to begin exfoliating. Then exfoliate 2-3 times per week.
• Do not over stimulate the skin. Let it recover.
